Low Realism

CSAV Residency with Ed Atkins, Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como. 2025.

Works in progress from the month long residency on the theme of Low Realism, presented by artist and workshop leader Ed Atkins. My research led me to texts on physics concerning the fourth dimension as a mirrored/alternative world, to the writings of the early 20th-century playwright Antonin Artaud on virtual reality, and to an exploration of anchorites, including Julian of Norwich, considered the author of the oldest surviving English-language manuscript by a woman. “Rose Window” uses a holiday slideshow of incredibly fast images, creating a zoetrope effect. This video is overlaid with the silhouette of a rose window displaying a reimagined Claddagh symbol. The back projection on circular glass is positioned blocking the stairway, acting as a non-functioning gate (or portail/portal). “Holiday Slideshow (J’en peux plus de cathédral)”, made in collaboration with Quentin Bouard, uses this same rapid slideshow, with walking/swiping actions using feet performed by Board in the reflection on the glass.

The residency culminated in an exhibition and publication Lo, involving works from all participating artists.
